Roundup (Monday, September 9)

Upstate Eight Conference

South Elgin 2, Bartlett 2

The Storm rallied from a 2-0 deficit with two second half goals to earn the draw. Edwin Ayala got on the end of an Elijah Patrick corner kick, and Danny Quintana (Jose Rangel assist) scored on a blast from 35 yards. Because the game ended in a tie, the teams conducted a 3-man shootout to see who would take home the trophy in the teams' new "Thunder Hawk" rivalry. Bartlett won the honor with 2-0 PK edge. The game served as a fundraiser for the Go 4 the Goal pediatric cancer charity. The schools raised more than $200 at the gate. Both programs also purchased yellow laces, with the proceeds also going back to the charity. South Elgin will train up to the PepsiCo Showdown, which begins Saturday.

Streamwood 3, Fenton 1
The Sabres gave a rude introduction to conference newcomer Fenton and built a 3-0 halftime lead. Jose Banuelos collected two goals and an assist. Angel Diaz contributed  a goal, and Edwin Peralta and Jose Ibarra served up helpers. Antonio Herrera made five saves in goal for Streamwood (3-2-2, 1-0-0), who will host red-hot West Chicago at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Nonconference

Grayslake Central 2  Cristo Rey St. Martin 1

The visiting Rams got goals from senior forward Tyler Kalata (unassisted) and junior midfielder James Rohlfing after an assist from Thomas Conlon. Sophomore keeper Jonathan Piggott made four saves in the win for Grayslake Central (2-5-0) which broke a four-match losing streak.
