Hillner Classic

South Elgin 2, Lake Park 1
Nick Flores' second half PK broke a 1-1 halftime deadlock to give the Storm (1-1-0) the tournament-opening win. Angel Garcia-Resendiz's scored South Elgin's first goal of the season in the first half. Second half keeper Christian Andrew held Lake Park scoreless and made five saves to preserve the win. The Storm continues play in the Lake Park-sponsored tournament at 9 a.m. Saturday against Wheaton North.


9th annual Joe Novy Classic

Addison Trail 3, Fenton 2
The host Trail Blazers (2-0-0) took their tourney opener thanks to goals from Aaron Sanchez, Anthony Hernandez and Leo Acosta. Brian Hernandez and Uriel Rojo collected assists for Addison Trail, which continues Pool 1 play against Proviso West at 2 p.m. Saturday. 


Nonconference

Benet 3, Plainfield East 0
Chris Mankowski had a goal and an assist to lead the Redwings (2-0-0) to the win. Nick Renfro (PK) and T.J. McVey added goals, and Nick Augustyn chipped in with an assist. Keepers Vyto Staniskis (two saves) and Hunter Randolph (one) split the clean-sheet. Benet will train up to its next match, a test vs. Geneva in the opener of the Best of the West Tournament at Naperville North High School on Sept. 3.


Grayslake Central 3, Vernon Hills 0
The host Rams (1-1-0) won thanks to first half goals from first-year varsity players -- Ben Berry scored a brace and Daniel Marynevych added a single tally. James Rohlfing, Tyler Kalata and Marko Marynevych recorded assists in the opening win of the season for Grayslake Central. Goalkeeper  Jonathan Piggott made four saves to record his first varsity shutout. 
"It was good to see the boys bounce back after a tough test on Tuesday (a 7-0 loss to Stevenson)," said coch Tom Hamilton. "We worked hard (Wednesday) to learn from our mistakes ... and the boys put in a big, team effort tonight. Now we'll look to build on this."


Wheaton Academy 2, Geneva 2
All four goals came in the first 40 minutes of play. Wheaton Academy held both leads on goals from Giovanni Nicoski (2nd minute, unassisted) and Logan Finnegan (18th minute, Daniel Rychenkov assist). Wheaton Academy (1-0-1) will play their first home game of the season at 11 a.m. Saturday vs. Cuyahoga Valley (Ohio). Geneva goals came via Josh Eiss and an own goal.
