IHSA state tournament

Lewis University Supersectional

Naperville North 1, Morton 0

The Huskies (25-1-1) got the only goal they needed in the battle of top seeds when senior defender Ethan Harvey's first half corner kick was deflected by the Morton defense and ended up in the goal. Naperville North's junior keeper Tommy Welch earned the shutout. The Huskies will continue their state title defense against 8th-ranked St. Charles North, also a no. 1 seed, at 7 p.m. in the final semifinal Friday night. Morton, ranked sixth in the Chicagoland Soccer Top 25, ended its season with a 22-2-2 mark.

Class AA

Sterling Supersectional

Wheaton Academy 2, Notre Dame (Quincy) 1

The Warriors (23-4-0) took the lead in the first half off of a goal by Seamus Kilgallon (Grayson Harris assist). After halftime the Warriors, ranked 18th in the Chicagoland Soccer Top 25, extended their advantage to 2-0 when Luke Holwerda scored off an assist from Jack Kilgallon. Notre Dame scored with about 20 minutes left, but Wheaton Academy was able to hang on for the victory behind stellar goalkeeping from J.D. Gunn. The Warriors move on to play second-seeded Gibault at 1 p.m. in the first semifinal Friday. Notre Dame lost to Wheaton Academy in a bracket final at the Go 4 the Goal Fall Classic on Sept. 30 in Burlington, Ia. The Raiders went 12-2-0 in their final 14 games of the season -- both defeats came by 2-1 tallies to Wheaton Academy. Notre Dame (Quincy), which was ranked fifth in Chicagoland Soccer's final Illinois 10 poll of the season, finished its campaign at 20-5-0.
