Class A state tournament

Wheaton Academy Supersectional

(1) Wheaton Academy 1, (2) Cristo Rey St. Martin 0

The Warriors (17-4-1) clinched a trip to the state finals in front of a packed Performance Trust Field. The only goal of the high-intensity match came in the 50th minute when Haetham Nasr redirected a pass from Evan Eckert. Declan Finnegan made four saves and his Warriors backline answered when called upon to record their ninth shutout of the year. Wheaton Academy will face second-seed Timothy (17-2-3) at 5 p.m. Friday at EastSide Centre in East Peoria. The Metro Suburban Conference Blue Division rivals met Sept. 16 when Timothy posted a shootout win.

Class AA state tournament

Vernon Hills Sectional

(1) Crystal Lake South 1, (4) Carmel 0
Nolan Getzinger's second half goal off a Michal Dejworek assist pushed the Gators (18-3-2) to the final. Keeper Logan Vargas made two saves for the shutout. Crystal Lake Central will face third-seeded Grayslake Central at noon Saturday for a supersectional berth.

Class 3A state tournament

Morton Regional

(2) Benet 2, (3) Lyons 2 (Benet wins PKs 3-1/4)
The Redwings prevailed in the shootout when Nico Picha, John Kolb and T.J. McVey converted their PKs and keeper Evan Lucas stopped Lyons first shot. Unlucky Lyons hit the crossbar on its second shot and the right post on its fourth and final try. Kolb gave Benet (15-5-1) the lead in the seventh minute after an Andy Nash assist. After the Lions tied the game, T.J. McVey scored on a PK in the 70th minute for a 2-1 lead. Lyons tied the shortly thereafter, and the teams played scoreless soccer through two overtimes. Benet advances to meet top-seeded host Morton at 7 p.m. Friday. In an earlier meeting this year, Morton topped the Redwings 2-1.
