Roundup (Saturday, October 27)
Class 3A state tournament
Huntley Regional
(3) HUNTLEY 3, (11) South Elgin 2 (2 OT/title)
After a 1-1 tie after 80 minutes, Huntley scored twice in the first overtime to secure the win. South Elgin pulled one back in the second extra-session but couldn't get even. Momo Gonzalez (Pablo Correa assist) and Jack Schmidtke (Quentin Albert) scored for the Storm (7-12-1).
Rolling Meadows Regional
(7) Stevenson 2, (2) Rolling Meadows 2 (Stevenson wins PKs 4-2/title)
Senior Jack Bacher's second half brace allowed Stevenson to play overtime against Rolling Meadows. After the extra sessions couldn't separate the pair, a shootout was needed. Bacher wasn't needed for a penalty kick round because Brady Meng, Mohit Damodaran, Tony Mo and Konstantinos Papamichos delivered from the spot.
The regional title earned the fourth-consecutive plaque for the Patriots, who are ranked 20th in the Chicagoland Soccer Top 25. Stevenson returns home for a 6:30 p.m. sectional date Tuesday (Oct. 30) with third-seeded Hersey. The teams met previously, with the Patriots falling 3-1 Sept. 28 in Arlington Heights. All of the Huskies goals came in the first half of play.
No. 25 Rolling Meadows saw one of its best seasons in recent history end at 14-5-3.
"We conceded the equalizer in the 74th minute on a miss-hit cross, and unfortunately fell short in kicks," said Mustangs manager Brett Olson.
