The Redwings pulled away thanks a brace and three assists from Brendan Bergnach, and a brace and solo helper from Sergio Polanco. Mateo Picha, with a goal and assist, and Mark Ndrio with a solo tally closed out the scoring column. In addition, the visitors benefitted from two own-goals. Jack Wesley contributed two assists, and Ruslan Holubec and Sean Boyle issued one apiece. Benet (9-4-2, 5-1-0), which is ranked sixth in the Chicagoland Soccer Class Super 7 poll, travels to Saint Viator for another league match at noon Saturday.

The keepers shined in the matchup. Noah Dunteman made nine saves for the clean-sheet for Crystal Lake South (10-7-1, 5-2-1). Angel Apaez denied 12 tries, including a PK in second half, for Cary-Grove (1-10-1, 0-7-1).

The host Blue Devils (6-8-2, 1-4-2) succumbed to 35th and 67th min goals. Keeper Ethan Cole made five saves. “The boys showed great effort tonight, but unfortunately, they still struggled to score,” said coach Jason Ahonen. “Zion-Benton’s keeper played exceptionally well, making two crucial saves that were key turning points in the game. We’re working hard, but we’re still waiting to see our efforts rewarded.”

The eighth-ranked Rams (12-2-1) put an exclamation point on top of their Senior Night with an undefeated conference championship. Damian Sereno led the way with a brace, and Ivan Sereno, Jaziel Alonso and Anderson Chevrier chipped in with goals.
