Class 3A state tournament supersectional

(2) Lyons 3, (3) Stagg 3 (Lyons wins PKs 8-7/8)
Senior defender Mason Santos scored bookend goals, the second of which tied the match in the 89th minute, and the Lions went on to the state finals-qualifying win.  Senior forward Owen Suda tallied the second goal in a match that saw Lyons rally from three one-goal deficits. Lions PK finishers were (in order): Suda; Colin Sullivan; Haris Sarajlija; Declan Kracker; Jimmy Brejcha; Daniel Svelnis; Mason Burda; and Ian Farris. Senior keeper Seth Ahim toiled in goal for the PK session. Lyons, the second seed of the Proviso East Sectional, will meet New Trier (20-1-2), the second seed of the Evanston Sectional, in the first Class 3A semifinal at 6 p.m. Friday at Hoffman Estates High School. Stagg ended its season at 18-4-1.

 


Class AA state tournament supersectional

At Grayslake Central

(2) Crystal Lake South 2, (3) Timothy 1 (2 OT)
Ali Ahmed scored unassisted with just under three minutes remaining in the the second overtime to take the win for the Gators (20-4-1). Nolan Getzinger (Nico Velasco assist) gave Crystal Lake South the lead after a scoreless first half.  
Timothy pulled even with just 2 minutes left in regulation. Chris Slawek made six saves for the victors, who advance to their third Final Four in the past five full seasons (champion, 2018; runnerup, 2019). Crystal Lake South meets sectional host Rochester (19-5-0), which was a no. 1 sub-sectional seed. The semifinal match will take place at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Hoffman Estates High School. Timothy ended its season at 18-7-0.
