The Raiders (16-5-1) earned their first win of the season against the Maroons when it mattered most. Previously this season, North Shore Country Day tied and lost to University (Chicago) in two Independent School League matches. Smith Flickinger scored twice in the final 14:49 to earn a state semifinal date against Peoria Christian (23-4-2) at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Hoffman Estates High School. University (Chicago) finished the season 10-9-3.

Class AA state tournament

St. Francis Sectional

(3) Timothy 2, (1) Benet 1 (2 OT)
Timothy won its third-straight sectional, but first in Class AA, on junior Owen Wise's free kick in the 86th minute. Senior Hendrik DeVries gave the Trojans a 1-0 lead the 41st minute. Brendan Bergnach drew Benet even on an unassisted tally in the 50th minute. Timothy (18-6-3) will seek its fourth-straight seeded upset when it meets second-seeded Crystal Lake South at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Grayslake Central Supersectional. Benet saw its 14-match unbeaten streak (12-0-2) and a six-game win/shutout run end. The Redwings outpaced Timothy with a 7-3 shots on goal advantage but saw their campaign conclude at 14-4-0.
