Senior forward Luca Davies led the way with a hat-trick for the Red Devils (2-1-1), who won their second-straight match. Classmates and midfielders Balys Zamalaitis and Martin Montoya added a goal and assist apiece. Robbie Rocque and Braden Tingler added assists. Davies is moving up the Hinsdale Central all-time scoring lists: his 51 career points rank 13th; his 23 goals is tied for ninth. "Coach Stapleton is a good friend and an excellent coach,” said Red Devils coach Mike Wiggins. “Downers Grove South is always well-prepared, and we look forward to this challenge annually. For us to come out and play with assertiveness and a collective organization offensively while keeping a defense core strong, we feel really good about the result. We want to build on this moving forward." The Red Devils welcome Brother Rice on Thursday afternoon.

Jack Elkinton tallied the game-winner in the 42nd minute for the visiting Blue Devils (2-1-0). The assist went to Christian Albarran. Lucas Ahonen opened the scoring with a PK in the 18th minute. Colton Holmes contributed four saves. “Very pleased with how the boys were able to adjust their style play today and play much more direct style of soccer,” said coach Jason Ahonen. “Games like this will only better us as we are able to make adjustments on the fly, depending on who we are playing and where we are playing.”

Ali Ahmed scored an unassisted first half tally for the Gators, who are ranked 18th in the Chicagoland Soccer Top 25. Zion-Benton evened the score in the second half. Crystal Lake South keeper Chris Slawek made five saves in the draw in the first round of Pool B play. The 18th-ranked Gators (2-0-1) meet Palatine in their final game of pool play at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The Sabres (3-1-0) roared back after a PK gave Taft a 1-0 first half lead. A.J. Sabanovic tied the game off an Andy Mendoza helper, and Bryan Huerta notched the game-winner with aid from Merced Avila. Keeper Issac Morales made four saves in the win. Streamwood leads the division with a 2-0-0 mark.

The Redwings (1-1-1) used first half goals from Jack Wesley (9') and Nick Roe to take the opening-round win. Jason Riedl, Mateo Picha and Danny Sterba provided helpers for the cause. Keeper Drew Connell made one save for his second-consecutive clean-sheet. Round two brings a meeting with Oswego (2-1-1) at 7 p.m. Thursday at Naperville North. South Elgin’s top performance came from second half keeper Aaron Cacucciolo, whose six saves kept Benet off the board. The Storm meet 12th-ranked Naperville North at 5 p.m. Thursday in round two action.

After trailing 2-0, Glenbard North fought back in the last 15th minutes behind a great sequence from Keith Thumutok and Christian Escobedo. It led to a PK that Escobedo finished for his seventh goal of the season. The backline of Ayan Sheikh, Hugo Tecuanhuehue, Rodrigo Nunez and Diego Navarro-Saavedra did a commendable job against fifth-ranked Oak Park and River Forest (3-0-0).

Lukas Krezmenzki’s first half goal stood up for the Wildcats in second round play. Noah Finnema provided the assist. Andy Houser made seven saves for the shutout. Libertyville will play No. 14 Libertyville will play tourney host and seventh-ranked New Trier for the right to advance to the Saturday final.
