Glenbard North 2, Glenbard East 0
Less than 24 hours after a tightly contested 3-2 road loss at 23rd-ranked Lane in which the Panthers played a man down for more than 60 minutes, Glenbard North came through in their district-tournament opener. After a scoreless first half, Christian Escobedo put away a great through-ball from Gavin VanTichelt to give the Panthers the lead. Less than 3 minutes later VanTichelt connected on a beautiful upper-90 strike from just outside the box to cement the Panthers' victory. Abdulrehman Ausuf was outstanding in goal with five saves to collect his first varsity shutout. Glenbard North (1-1-0) opens up the Joe Novy Classic vs. Willowbrook on Thursday at Addison Trail. 
 

Knight invite at Grayslake North

Prairie Ridge 3, Warren 2
No. 31 Warren fought back to tie the match twice, but couldn’t hold off the Wolves. Brandon Ostrowski (Lucas Ahonen assist) and Charlie Crowson (Christian Albarran) brought the Blue Devils back, but Prairie Ridge’s 60th-minute PK put the game away. Keeper Colton Homes made four saves in the season-opener for Warren. “Not the start we are looking for,” coach Jason Ahonen said. “Prairie Ridge did a wonderful job of pressing our play and created a number of turnovers. I was happy for two of our sophomores who scored today.  It’s is always special when you score that first varsity goal. Prairie Ridge did an excellent job. Once we scored to tie the game, they came right down put another one in the back of the net.  We will learn from this game and move forward.”

Nonconference

Oswego East 1, Hinsdale Central 1
Enzo Cinque’s goal off an Austen Szurgot assist gave no. 7 Hinsdale Central an early lead, but Oswego East earned the tie with a tally before the half. “A game we expected from the start,” said Red Devils coach Mike Wiggins. “Credit to Oswego East, they came out working hard, getting after every ball. I thought we saw great play from several of our team members getting their first varsity minutes. We went into the half with a 7-1 advantage in shots on goal, which was encouraging. I really felt like the second one was coming. The second half chance from Luca Davies that came from an off-angle hitting the crossbar gave us some excitement. We thought that was going to get it done." Hinsdale Central resumes play Friday at Young (7 p.m.). Saturday the Red Devils take a short drive to face Timothy.

St. Charles East 3, Bartlett 0
The 11th-ranked Fighting Saints received goals from Ryan Groselak (Jake Walker); Marc Walker (unassisted) and Aiden Maloney (Griffin Counts). Keepers Jordan Rolon (5 saves, 60 minutes) and Ivan Campobasso (2, 20) shared the shutout.
