PALATINE -- Two first half goals from Leah Saxe, and additional strikes from Maddie McMillan, and Ava Catherall after the intermission allowed Fremd (14-2-1, 10-0-1) to cruise to an easy 4-0 win over visiting Schaumburg on Friday night at Hildebrandt Field.

The victory forced rival Barrington to win at home Saturday against Hersey to claim an 11th-consecutive Mid-Suburban League West Division title. The Fillies came through with a 3-1 win. They will play an encore against the Huskies in the league championship match Wednesday at Hersey.

Fremd seniors Kaitlyn Roti and Bella Scesniak said the Vikings did what they needed to do. Barrington and Fremd tied with 10-0-1 records, but the Fillies advanced on the fourth tiebreaker.

The perennial West Division powers drew 1-1 on a way-too-early March 22 match date. Since then, the teams tore through the league. It took the fourth criteria after the head-to-head result, best record within the division (4-0-1) and number of regulation victories (10 each) to separate the two.

Barrington had 10 wins of two goals or more; Fremd had seven.

"It's too bad they both can’t be in the MSL Soccer Cup. They are both great clubs, led by two great managers," said Schaumburg manager Greg Charvat, whose career will come to a close when he retires at the end of the school year.

Charvat played at Schaumburg (Class of 1984), before returning to teach. He has been Saxons manager since 1994.

Keller and Barrington manager Ryan Stengren achieved matching milestones earlier in the week – they both collected their 300th-career girls win on May 3.

"Two great guys and coaches, who do all the right things in this sport," Charvat said.

"(Keller) is just a great coach, and person,” said Roti, who’s a standout at the six for the Vikings. “He can be really tough on us. But he also can be a really fun person to be around. That's one of the things I like about him so much."

"(Rodi) and I have been so lucky, and fortunate to be with (Keller) all four years of our high school life," added Scesniak, who is one of the top central defenders around. He's made us all better soccer players and better persons as well."

After his 301st girls win on Friday (4-0 vs. Schaumburg), Keller has 623 combined high school victories.

Fremd will train up to the state tournament. The top-seed of the Glenbrook North Sectional will host play-in game winner, no. 16 Wheeling or no. 17 Zion-Benton, on May 16.
