Behold the calmest week of the season.
“I think coming back from spring break is a tough time for any team,” Oak Park and River Forest coach Christine Johnston said.
“We had players missing, and some players coming back from vacation.”
With the vast majority of programs electing not to schedule games this week, there was relatively scant activity in the new poll.
The listing maintains its continuity but will not be terribly exciting for poll watchers.
The dial did not move very much this week, probably the last time this year where 24 of the teams ranked previously returned to their lofty perch.
Without much shuffling of the deck, this week maintained the status quo.
A couple of teams stood out, like St. Charles East winning three tough games including one in Peoria, and New Trier traveling down to the St. Louis area to beat two solid Illinois sides.
The new week starts fast, with multiple big-time conference games and rivalry games, like Glenbrook North/New Trier, Lockport/Lincoln-Way Central.
It leads to a fairly bifurcated part to the season, before and after spring break.
With the start of some significant tournaments like the Lou Malnati’s Deep Dish Classic, the season really begins in earnest.
Enjoy the calm and quiet, and get ready for the coming reckoning.
