Chicago Mustangs win Fall Super Cup

By Patrick Z. McGavin

Forward Jimmy Matthew blasted home the game-winner in the 98th minute as the Mustangs captured the double-overtime 2-1 victory in the championship of the Fall Super Cup.

Kaden Eberman recorded the assist to help the Mustangs avoid a shootout in the title game, which was presented  by Minor League Soccer Championships.

The score was tied-1-1 after 90 minutes of regulation play. Forward Adrien Graffin converted a penalty kick for the Mustangs’ first goal.

“I feel the final score of the match was justified based on our performance,” coach Dino Delevski said. “We had so many great things happen last night. Watching these young men playing beyond their age and earning their respect against a quality team like Demize feels very rewarding.”

Delevski said the team’s culture and identity flowed out of its selfless, energized style of play.

“We have embraced the type of game that everyone talks about but very few execute,” he said. “This game was a perfect example. The best part about this is this game was just the beginning.

“We will only get better.”
